In-School Residency

Mercury musicians have a lasting impact on young Houstonians' lives through our innovative and award-winning team-teaching program.

Through this in-depth program our musicians:

  •  Partner with music teachers in the classroom

  •  Provide Masterclasses for soloists or ensembles

  •  Engage in ensemble and orchestra coaching

We see this program change young lives as a student's experience extends beyond the abilities gained as an instrumentalist, learning life skills like team-work, responsibility, perseverance and self-confidence.

The program is flexible to fit each school's needs.  Designed originally in 2011 as a semester-long intensive program at YES Prep West campus, our in-school residencies have expanded to schools in Houston, Katy and Aldine ISDs.  Musicians are also available for short duration residencies, invigorating students and teachers alike.

In 2015, Education Manager Andrés González was recognized with the Yale Distinguished Music Educator Award for his work on this program.
