Intimate, moving works – hear them like never before

Bursting with emotion, Dvořák’s String Serenade is one of this his most popular works.  Schubert’s Quintet in C was written in the final weeks of his life – and features gorgeous richness and delicate tenderness. Hear these two intimate works – originally written for small ensembles – brought to life by the full string section of Mercury.

This concert is made possible in part by the Houston Endowment and the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.

Program Notes

Welcome from the Artistic Director

Schubert’s Quintet and Dvorák’s Serenade, each a landmark work for strings, come from different points in their respective composer’s careers and exemplify genres of dissimilar weight and scale.
