Our Downtown Series at the Wortham Center, Sept. 19, 2017

Houston First has announced that the recovery effort at the Wortham Center will keep the venue closed until mid-May 2018.   Unfortunately, this means our 2017-2018 Downtown Series will be relocated from its Wortham home at the Cullen Theater. Attached is the full release from Houston First.

Last week we began contacting ticketholders to our October 7 concert, knowing already that we would be relocating that performance to Stude Concert Hall at the Shepherd School of Music.  As a precaution, we also had already secured an alternative venue for our November 18 and December 9, 2017 concerts. We are working now to find homes for our 2018 concerts and will update you as soon as possible.

Houston Theater District damage will have a long-lasting impact on the arts.  Continued support and generosity from patrons like you, through contributions as well as attendance, will keep Houston's cultural arts strong.

Thank you for your support of Mercury, especially at this time. We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming concert!

Best regards,

An update on our Oct. 7 concert at the Wortham, Sept. 12, 2017

The Wortham Center suffered much damage during the storm. Teams are working hard to restore the building. However, use of the space has been suspended through mid-October, affecting the opening concert of Mercury’s Downtown Series on Saturday, October 7, 8 PM—Brahms & Mendelssohn. We are thrilled to share that this concert will now take place at the Stude Concert Hall at Rice University at the same date and time.

Our subscribers and ticket holders are being contacted about this change and will receive replacement tickets by email or can pick them up at Will Call.  Single tickets for this performance are available, so please encourage your friends and family to attend.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

A Message about Harvey, Aug. 29, 2017

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Houston community as the havoc of Harvey continues. We’re glad to report that the staff and musicians are safe. Several experienced some harrowing moments during the last 72 hours, but are now safe and dry.  For this, we are grateful.

We are so thankful to our first responders and community volunteers for their perseverance and generosity, and to our city officials, including Mayor Sylvester Turner, Judge Ed Emmett, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, and Police Chief Art Acevedo for their leadership and dedication to this wonderful city and all its citizens.

Today, Antoine and the musicians were to begin rehearsals for our annual free community concert at Miller Outdoor Theater on Saturday.  However, this will have to be rescheduled and we hope to repurpose it as a benefit to help our community rebuild.

There are many question marks about the weeks ahead as our musicians, our arts partners, and our community recover.  For now, we wait for the rain to end and find ways to be of service to both friends and strangers.

Wishing you the very best,

Brian Ritter
